There is plenty to do in Helmsley, including attractions such as the Castle, the Walled Garden, Duncombe Park, National Centre for Birds of Prey and Arts Centre. You can of course just while away the hours browsing the shops and art galleries in Helmsley, and then stopping to savour some delights from the award winning pubs and eateries.
Food shopping, like it used to be! You can buy your meat from a choice of two butchers, your bread and fabulous locally made baked goods from the two bakers in the town and fruit and veg from the greengrocers. There are two delicatessen outlets and a convenience store, for larger supermarkets you'd need to visit Thirsk, Pickering or York.
The town boasts many eateries, there are tearooms aplenty all offering breakfasts, lunches and afternoon teas. For evening meals and socialising there are three pubs on the market square all offering meals from bar snacks to full dinner service, there are two fish and chip shops one which has a restaurant attached, an Indian restaurant, and an Italian. Helmsley also has its own brewery on Bridge Street.

The North York Moors National Park Centre at Sutton Bank is approximately 6 miles from Helmsley. Not only do you have access to a wealth of information about things to do and see in the national park you also get to see one of the best views in England from Sutton Bank.

There are several National Trust attractions nearby including Rievaulx Terrace, Nunnington Hall, Mount Grace Priory and Beningbrough Hall.

There are also English Heritage attractions including, of course Helmsley Castle, as well as Rievaulx Abbey, Byland Abbey, Pickering Castle and Whitby Abbey.
There are many more places to visit, including the famous coastal town of Whitby, the steam railway in Pickering and the historic walled city of York.
